The other day I received a forward, pictures of Sunita Williams photography session at the ISS. There were a lot of mesmersing shots that pertained to everything from the Gibraltar strait to the Alps, and many more. It even had the shots of our planet during the night, the well lit North American continent in drastic contrast to that of North Africa, and well the other continents too.
Now was what the pix were about. My roomie/colleague Chinni( Nikhil) came up with a thought , some thing that came to his mind on seeing the photograph, "How significant are we?" or rather "Do we have any significance at all?". All I asked was "EH!", and he jus responded, " All those huge cities are nothin but dots of light from the space, and those gigantic skyscrapers which we often wonder as accomplishments of mankind are nothin but dust particles from space, if that is so, then what are we? Is anything that we do wrthy of anything in the vastness of the universe?" And I added, rather involuntarily " Our dreams, ambitions, the murcielago..... " , I just blurted out.
But it made sense, we humans are nothin but a .... speck, a dust particle or .. virtually nothing in the inestimable vastness of the universe. Food for thought I should say, or is it another meaningless observation that would not make a difference to our lives. It left me pondering for a while, yes indeed, our life is merely trivial matter or hardly worth a mention in the dynamics of our universe, but it is everything, rather the sole objective to each and every organism that survives on this planet of ours.
But that how it is, there are alwasy bigger things, bigger worlds and bigger universes. The life of an ant is nothing but frivolous to us, and so there are beings who consider us( rather who wudnt bother to...). Mine and your universe is not the milky way, or the bigger galaxies or the universe in the whole, it is the place I work, my family, my friends, places I want to go, places I can lurk around on my feet and everything tangible or possibly tangible.
So even if our human race could be atomic to the cosmic eyes, at the end of the day your boss, your wife, and your tax collector.... aint that unworthy to be noticed, and u betta give a heed to what they say, because in your universe they are as intimidating as they could come and a comparison of humans and the stars would not save ur derriere.
